Mrs. Wegner’s 6th grade science students learned how Pedologists, or soil scientists, will often use the “feel method” when they are working outside of a laboratory to determine the texture of soil.
They do this by following a step-by-step process.
One way of showing this process is through a flow chart.
Pictured here are student “soil detectives” with their soil samples collected from home.
In class they used the flow chart to analyze the sample and record their findings.
They then had an opportunity to test a desk partner’s soil and compare their findings.
At the end of the study they presented their findings to the entire class.
