Due to the continual concern of air quality from several forest fires burning in and around Southern Oregon, Grace Cascade Christian Schools will be checking air quality on a day-by-day basis for the safety of all our students and staff. Grace Cascade Christian Schools utilizes the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the AirNow.gov websites to determine AGI levels. (See chart below)
We will be holding recess and physical education classes for all grade levels indoors each day that the AQI level is 151 (unhealthy) and above. If your child falls within the “sensitive group” due to a medical condition such as asthma, please make sure their teacher is informed. As the air quality begins to clear and drops below 151, we will go outside for light activity and middle school outdoor break. Per parental request, students with sensitivities will be kept inside in a designated, monitored area. All students will be monitored for any signs of sensitivity to smoke.
Athletic activities will be monitored on a day-by-day basis and follows guidelines as determined by the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Student Activities Association (OSAA). Announcements will be placed on the athletic website (challengerathletics.com) and in RenWeb > ParentsWeb as to whether practices and games will be held or relocated. Coaches will also inform athletes of changes. See the OSAA/OHA AirQualityIndexMemo for further details.
Currently Medford has an AQI of 246, so therefore students will be kept indoors.
Thank you for allowing us to care for your treasures while they are at school. We will continue to pray for rain and for safety for all individuals fighting fires.
